Makeup Minerals: The Natural “Goodies” and “Baddies” in Your Everyday Cosmetics
Makeup minerals can be confusing. In the past year those has been so much media hype about mineral makeup that everyone is looking for natural mineral remedies. Nevertheless, not all makeup minerals are that great. Some of the most common are at best ineffectual. The worst that can happen is that they can cause serious problems.
Most consumers want to get the most out of the minerals in their natural makeup. However, they may not want to switch over to mineral makeup entirely. Perhaps all they want is earth minerals. Or maybe its just for the anti-aging benefits. Maybe they just want to stay away from the problems that makeup minerals can cause.
You should completely understand the mineral content in your natural makeup. There are many different makeup minerals. We have put together a list below. Your makeup’s ingredients will become more understandable to you.
• Zinc and zinc oxide
Pure mineral makeups usually contain these products. They are natural sunscreens. They can also be a great help in hiding wrinkles and smoothing your skin out. In pure forms, they do not irritate skin.
• Titanium dioxide
This is also common in pure mineral makeups. It will smooth out flaws in your complexion. If it is in mineral makeup, it may also help relieve acne and rosacea. But, they can also mix it with artificial ingredients which can result in the makeup being less hypoallergenic.
• Mica
The anti-aging mineral that is added to these natural makeups is Mica. Look for this mineral when buying your pure mineral makeup. It also deflects attention from irregularity. The mica that is in this makeup is crushed so tiny so that you don’t look like you are wearing glitter. You can usually find mica in most non-mineral makeups.
• Bismuth
Bismuth is controversial. This mineral is also unrefined. To be put in mineral makeup, Bismuth must first be processed. Its not that easy to just crush into powder. There are a few people that claim it shouldn’t even be considered a pure earth mineral. This mineral creates a glow on your skin that many really like. But it can also cause itching if you have sensitive skin or sweat.
• Talc
Talc is a classic makeup mineral. It has long been used in consmetics. However, many people are allergic to talc. This mineral is mainly used as a filler. Talc is in most all conventional makeups. Pure mineral makeup products often exclude talc even though it is a legitimate makeup mineral because it is a common allergen.
