Despite their much different lifestyles and their “status”, the rich and famous can often be the victims of panic or phobias.  The fact that they have these fears and anxieties reveals how much like the rest of us they are.

It is not uncommon for celebrities have phobias that bother millions of the rest of us as well. What do some of these celebrities fear most often?

Michael Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, and Jennifer Aniston share the same fear of flying. Orlando Bloom is is scared of pigs and Johnny Depp has a fear of clowns.  Nicole Kidman is scared of butterflies. And would you believe that Pamela Anderson has a fear of mirrors?

Celebrities and non-celebrities can break out into a panic attack whenever they are exposed to the situation that they are afraid of the most. While it is common to be apprehensive about having to face a certain fear or situation, there are some cases in which the fear can be so debilitating that it causes total panic.

What is a panic attack?  A panic attack is a sudden intense fear followed by the bodies natural response of “fight or flight”. It can often be accompanied by rapid breathing, a rapid heart beat, and/or heavy sweating. Panic attacks are usually unprovoked and can occur suddenly. They can even worsen into an extreme condition that causes a devastating impact on a person’s family, work, and social life. These attacks can occur anytime and can disrupt everyday activities. Left untreated, a panic disorder can possibly lead to other problems including depression and substance abuse.

Those who have full-blown, repeated attacks can be psychologically impaired by their condition and find help for it. They should also avoid places or objects that could trigger another panic attack. A panic attack is not dangerous, but it can be terrifying, mostly because it creates a sense of being ‘out of control’ on the part of the person having the attack.

Occasional times of worry and moderate levels of anxiety are considered normal. However, panic symptoms that occur more frequently can be an indication that a person is under extreme psychological stress. Anyone who often experiences debilitating panic attacks should immediately seek the advice of a mental heath professional. Only a licensed therapist can make a make a final diagnosis of a panic disorder.

Those that thinks they may be experiencing frequent times of panic or anxiety are advised to join a support organization or find a counselor to talk with. Even a simple thing like talking to a trusted friend, a loved one, or a church counselor can do wonders.

There are many stress management techniques that can also assist people in controlling such disorders. Frequent exercise has also been shown to have a positive effect on a person saddled with fear and panic.
